The
past 5 years of Baseball with Brevin has allowed us to raise over $60,000 to help kids with developmental disabilities very
similar to Brevin's condition. We sincerely hope you can help us to make the 6th annual BwB just as
impactful, enjoyable and memorable as the past five.
Brevin James Lacy was born on March 24, 2004 and left us on April 20,
2005. In order to help children who face some of the same challenges that Brevin faced, we choose a charity each year
to support with our proceeds. The past five years have been dedicated to NOCK - the National Organization Caring for
Kids – but due to the 2009 recession NOCK decided to cease its operations.
Something as minor as the worst recession since
the Great Depression won’t stop us from helping kids in the name of Brevin. We looked hard for another cause that
seemed to fit nicely with Brevin’s story and two charities surfaced.
Blind Babies Foundation helped Brevin tremendously by sending a wonderful
team to the house every week. They worked to stimulate Brevin visually and ultimately to help him develop his social, emotional and communication skills along with his fine and gross
motor skills. The development of these skills is significantly slowed when a child’s senses are compromised; Blind
Babies Foundation has a wonderful program suited to help kids with these needs.
B.O.K. Ranch is a program that we decided to utilize had Brevn lived long enough. Therapeutic
horseback riding provides children with developmental disabilities an opportunity to develop physical strength, balance, control,
self-confidence, and self esteem. We absolutely love their approach – they drive kids to focus not on their
limitations, but on their abilities. To give Brevin this opportunity while interacting with beautiful horses was something
we definitely wanted.
